New Delhi, Dec 29 : Air services at Indira Gandhi International Airport faced disruption on Monday as weather conditions led to a series of operational setbacks. A total of 128 scheduled operations were called off during the day, while eight aircraft were redirected to other locations. In addition, close to 200 flights reported late departures or arrivals.
Airport authorities confirmed that the suspended operations included an equal number of inbound and outbound services, with 64 on each side. The diversions were carried out after visibility levels dropped below the required limits for safe landings.
Delhi International Airport Limited, which manages the airport, informed passengers through social media that visibility on runways showed signs of recovery. However, the operator cautioned that flight schedules could continue to see interruptions.
Data available on a global flight monitoring platform indicated widespread delays across multiple carriers, with waiting times extending beyond regular schedules. The slowdown affected both domestic and international routes operating from the capital.
A leading airline also issued a public update stating that reduced visibility in Delhi and other northern regions was affecting air traffic flow, resulting in slower aircraft movement.
Indira Gandhi International Airport manages around 1,300 take-offs and landings every day, making it one of the busiest aviation hubs in the country. The situation prompted passengers to check flight status before travelling to the airport.(KNS)
