As the Kashmir economy was yet to recuperate from losses post dilution of special status of Jammu and Kashmir, now the coronavirus scare has halted the recovery process.
With the administration taking a slew of measures to contain spread of the infectious virus, economy has again become a casualty.
The administration has banned entry of foreign tourists, closed restaurants, hotels etc. leading to further dip in business.
“We were already neck deep in losses, now this coronavirus has further pushed us into quagmire. Businesses are bleeding losses, our exports, tourism sector and all other segments of economy are facing huge losses,” said president, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Sheikh Ashiq.
He said that though “precautions are must to contain this fatal disease, but government must come to the rescue of Kashmir economy as it is matter of survival for business community. That is why we raised these issues with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a meeting at New Delhi yesterday.”
