Slain were involved in killing of territorial armyman in Bijbehara :- IGP
Two militants were killed in an Encounter at Semthan Bijbhera area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday.
Official sources said that both the militant have been killed in the gunfight which started yesterday. However identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.
Earlier a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in the area. The operation, officials said, was suspended yesterday.
As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off a gunfight.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar Sunday said that militants responsible for the killing of Territorial Army soldier were killed in Bijbehara encounter. “Militants responsible for the killing of Army jawan neutralized within two days in the Bijbehara encounter,” IGP Kashmir wrote on his twitter handle. TA soldier Muhammad Saleem Akhoon was killed at his house in Bijbheara on Friday. He had serious bullet wounds in his head.
In the wee hours, after ensuring all the civilians are safe, the operation was resumed and both the terrorists were eliminated in the ensuing encounter. They have been identified as Towseef Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Ramzan resident of Takia Maqbool Shah Bijbehara and Aamir Hussain Ganie son of Ab Rashid resident of Goriwan Bijbehara, Anantnag linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT.
As per police records, millitant Towseef was active since 2017 and Aamir had joined millitants ranks in the year 2018. Both of them were wanted in many terror crimes including the killing of an off-duty Territorial Army soldier Mohammad Saleem Akhoon who was killed by them near his home in Goriwan Bijbehara on Friday. They were also wanted by law in Case FIR No. 07/2020 of PS Bijbehara regarding attack on CRPF party in which one CRPF jawan had got killed. They were also involved in threatening and intimidating the civilian population of the area and enticing the young boys to join terror ranks.
IGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar-IPS congratulated the joint team of police and security forces for conducting operation in a professional manner.
Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including two AK series rifles were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.
The last rites of the killed millitants shall be performed after conducting medico-legal formalities at Handwara and their nearest family members shall be allowed to participate in the last rites.
In this connection police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared off of all the explosive materials, if any.
