Pampore, Dec 27: A Bird Festival was organised on Friday at Pampore, drawing attention to the rich biodiversity and ecological significance of the Chatalm Wetland, which is currently hosting a variety of migratory birds.
The festival was organised by environmental activist Nadeem Qadri, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from nature lovers, conservationists, and officials. Participants described the event as a rare and enriching experience, with the pristine and crystal-clear waters of Chatalm Wetland offering an ideal habitat for migratory bird species.
The occasion was further graced by the presence of retired IFS officer Geelani Sahab, along with senior officials from the Forest Department, Police, and other dignitaries. The Commanding Officer and Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Awantipora were also present, lending institutional support to the conservation-focused initiative.
Speaking on the sidelines, Abid Ali Mir, Director, The Nature Radio, said the festival provided a valuable platform to raise awareness about wetland conservation and the need to protect natural habitats that support migratory birds. He added that interactions with experienced officers and experts offered meaningful insights into biodiversity preservation and sustainable environmental practices.
The Bird Festival concluded with a renewed call for collective efforts to safeguard Kashmir’s wetlands, which play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and promoting eco-tourism in the region.
