Srinagar, Feb 7: Congress party MLA Nizamuddin Bhat on Saturday praised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for presenting what he termed a growth-oriented Budget despite the difficult economic and administrative circumstances faced by Jammu and Kashmir.

Reacting to the Budget, Bhat told reporters in Jammu that the document focuses on crucial sectors including infrastructure development, unemployment and overall economic growth. He said that given the prevailing constraints of Union Territory status, the Chief Minister has made a sincere effort to balance development priorities.

The Congress MLA underlined that Jammu and Kashmir remains heavily dependent on the Centre for financial support, and the success of the Budget would largely depend on how much assistance is extended by New Delhi. He said while there are limitations and pitfalls, the responsibility now lies with the Centre to ensure adequate funding.

“Within the existing constraints, the Chief Minister has done a good job. The government has fulfilled its responsibility. Now it depends on the generosity of the Centre,” Bhat said.

He added that effective implementation of the Budget proposals would require sustained central support, particularly for infrastructure and employment-related initiatives. [KNT]
