KUPWARA, FEB 21 ; In a compassionate move aimed at providing immediate relief to distressed families, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, today disbursed financial assistance totaling ?2 lakh to the Next of Kin of two individuals who tragically lost their lives in recent road accidents. The aid was distributed under the provisions of the J&K Road Accident Victim Fund 2022, which is specifically designed to offer a swift financial safety net to the legal heirs of those killed or injured in accidents involving passenger and private vehicles.
During a ceremony held in his office chamber, the Deputy Commissioner presented cheques of ?1 lakh each to the families of two deceased individuals, following formal approval from a mandated five-member district committee.
This specialized committee, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, ensures rigorous oversight and includes the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Account Officer to the DC Office, and the Deputy SP Traffic. The implementation of the J&K Road Accident Victim Fund reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that victims’ families receive timely support during their period of greatest grief.
By involving key district officers in the approval process, the administration maintains a transparent and structured approach to evaluating claims and delivering much-needed resources to those impacted by road tragedies.
During the distribution, Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Suse reiterated the government’s firm stance on the rapid implementation of the scheme. He issued a strong directive to all concerned officers to prioritize the resolution of all pending cases related to road accident deaths and injuries. The DC emphasized that the bureaucracy must act with empathy and speed, ensuring that no eligible family is left waiting for the assistance they are entitled to under the law.
Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the critical need for promoting widespread public awareness regarding the existence and benefits of the fund. To significantly expedite the compensation process, he advocated for the establishment of an efficient single-window clearance system. This initiative is intended to streamline the disbursal of claims, reducing the administrative burden on grieving families and ensuring a more accessible, transparent, and responsive governance model within the district.
