The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Sunday detained a Tollywood actress in Mumbai in a drug case.
Sources said MD drugs were recovered from her. The actress was released after being interrogated and summoned again today.
The NCB on Sunday intercepted Chand Mohd Shaikh, 27, near Bandra Talao where he was involved in the delivery of 400 gms of MD drugs worth approximately Rs 10 lakh. In a follow-up action, NCB raided a hotel in Mira Road and a Tollywood actress was detained and MD drugs was recovered from her.
The Tollywood actress was staying at the hotel with a drug supplier named Saeed since January 1. Saeed is on the run as he allegedly supplied drugs to Shaikh.
“On revelation by the accused, Chand Shaikh, a follow up raid was conducted at the hotel near Golden Nest circle in Thane. However, the suspect, Sayeed Shaikh, fled from the home. The recovered drug was sourced from Sayeed Sheikh, a resident of Mira Bhayander, Thane district. He is believed to be the main supplier of MD drugs,” NCB said in a press statement.
Shaikh was earlier working with a MNC company and later quit his job to join the drug business.
NCB official suspects role of the hotel and the owners are currently being questioned.
Explaining the modus operandi, NCB said it believes that the drug suppliers from outside Mumbai fly in with drugs and stay in a hotel outside the city. They then supply drugs in Mumbai.
“Drugs supply continue in Mumbai for two reasons — one is drug addiction and other is that it’s a very lucrative business,” an NCB official said. ( India Today )
