Top Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) official Tuesday said that security forces in Kashmir are on top of the fight against militants and that at times security forces too suffer causalities.

Special Director General of CRPF, Zulfikar Hassan said that the militancy related incidents keep happening but security forces have been dominating. He was speaking to media men after visiting the yesterday’s shootout site Wangam, Handwara in which three CRPF men and a mentally unsound boy were killed.

Talking about the Kralgund crossing shootout, special DG said the militant attacked the joint party of Jammu Kashmir police and CRPF which was retaliated heavily and the exchange of fire continued for almost 20 minutes. “During the exchange of gunfire, unfortunately we lost our three men.

But we are working on it and whosoever is behind this act, action will be taken against them,” he said. Replying to a query that Wangam was a second attack within 24 hours in Handwara, he said, the attacks are taking place in Kashmir since long but the security forces have the hold and are on top of the situation in fight against the militant outfits. “Sometimes, we too loose our men,” he said.

Replying to another query about the reports of steel bullets fired by militants in Wangam attack, he said: “These are the operational things and can’t be discussed in public domain.” He also said that a civilian got killed during the cross fire which is unfortunate but the investigation into the incident is underway.
