Anantnag, Oct 21: Police in Anantnag have registered two FIRs against four butchers from the Achabal Adda area of the town for violating government orders concerning the sale and storage of meat.

According to officials, cases under FIR Nos. 210/2025 and 211/2025 were filed after the butchers were found displaying meat in the open, in breach of prescribed food safety and hygiene standards.

“During inspection, the butchers were found hanging meat outside their shops, rendering it unfit for consumption and posing serious health risks to the public,” an official said.

The crackdown is part of an ongoing joint enforcement drive by the Anantnag Police and municipal authorities to maintain food hygiene and prevent the sale of contaminated or unsafe meat in local markets.

Police have cautioned meat sellers to comply strictly with health and safety norms to avoid penal action.
