We offer our heartfelt condolences on the sad news of the passing of Ashok Jailkhani Ji—a consummate professional, a gifted writer, and a true custodian of Kashmir’s cultural spirit. As a broadcaster, he upheld journalistic dignity with unwavering conviction; as an author and translator, he expanded our literary horizons; and as a human being, he inspired respect, warmth, and camaraderie.
It was our honour to feature him in Kashmir Pen several years ago, where he shared his journey in broadcasting—an odyssey filled with challenges, learnings, and memories from the sets of radio and television. Those stories revealed a life passionately embracing creativity, experimentation, and humanity. Even then, he was working on compiling a fuller book of anecdotes—stories we hope he left in the capable hands of those who loved and admired him.
Our region has lost not just a talented writer and broadcaster but an emblem of cultural resilience. Our condolences go out to his family, colleagues, and countless admirers across Kashmir. May his soul rest in peace.
