Srinagar, Feb 28: History was scripted in Hubli as J&K were crowned Ranji Trophy champions for the first time in 67 years, sealing the title on the basis of a massive first innings lead against Karnataka in a drawn final.

After posting a commanding 584 in their first innings and restricting Karnataka to 293, J&K tightened their grip on the contest. They declared their second innings at 342 for 4, setting an imposing tone before both captains shook hands to confirm the result. Courtesy the huge first innings advantage, J&K were declared winners of the summit clash.

The victory marks a landmark moment for J&K cricket. Playing their maiden Ranji final, the team showed composure and belief across five days. Shubham Pundir’s century laid the foundation, while Aaqib Nabi’s consistent breakthroughs kept Karnataka under pressure. Qamran Iqbal and Sahil Lotra’s unbeaten centuries in the second innings further stamped authority.

Players celebrated on the field as history unfolded. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, present in the stands, joined the celebrations as the squad soaked in the achievement.

For J&K, this triumph signals a new chapter in red ball cricket, built on discipline, resilience and fearless cricket at the highest domestic stage.
