Srinagar, Jan 30 ; The Jammu and Kashmir Justice and Development Front (JDF) on Friday said it would work within the “boundaries of the Constitution” and reach out to the people after the Election Commission of India granted it recognition.

Speaking to News Agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), JDF Chief Patron Ghulam Qadir Lone thanked the poll panel for the registration, calling it an “important step” to continue the democratic process.

“The reality is that the state has been in a state of corruption for the past 30 years,” Lone said, referring to the 1987 elections as a “corruption” while calling the recent polls transparent.

He said the JDF, which did not win in the last elections, had hoped for an improved electoral atmosphere. “The government of India feels that we should hold elections again in the state. As a result of these elections, we tried to find a clear path for ourselves,” he added.

Stressing his party’s commitment to the constitutional framework, Lone said, “We are with India. We should work within the boundaries of the Constitution. J&K will work within the boundaries of the Constitution and try to reach the people.”

He also dismissed perceptions of the region being influenced by Pakistan or religious politics. “Some people think that J&K is a Pakistani government. Some people think that J&K is a Muslim government. We cannot play any role in this,” Lone said.

Outlining the party’s agenda, he said the JDF would focus on fighting corruption and bribery, educating people against wasteful spending, and promoting merit. “We will go to villages… We will try to raise the morale of the people of J&K,” Lone said.

He added that the party would now begin outreach programmes across the region despite facing “difficulties”. (KNS)
