Srinagar | July 13, 2025: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid a heartfelt tribute on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, remembering the valiant souls who laid down their lives on July 13, 1931, standing against oppression and injustice in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sharing a deeply moving message on social media, the Chief Minister wrote:
“Woh jo na rukey zulm ke saamne,
Unhi ke qadam raaston ke diye ban gaye.”
“On 13th July, we bow our heads in solemn remembrance of the brave souls who stood tall against tyranny and laid down their lives for justice, dignity, and democracy in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Describing their sacrifice as a turning point in the region’s collective conscience, Omar Abdullah emphasized that their memory cannot be erased, nor their truth silenced. “Let this day remind us: courage does not shout. It endures. And freedom, once stirred, cannot be silenced,” he added.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the legacy of the martyrs would be honored not merely through ceremonial remembrance but by upholding the values of justice, dignity, and democracy in daily governance and public life.
Martyrs’ Day, observed annually on July 13, marks the killing of 22 Kashmiris who were martyred while protesting against autocratic rule and demanding democratic rights outside Central Jail, Srinagar, in 1931.
