Talking to news agency, Mufti Nasir said that he has been receiving lot of complaints and allegations against police who have been allegedly beating, thrashing and misbehaving with the common masses who go out of their homes out of compulsion.

Mufti Nasir said that at the same time if someone goes to masjid to offer prayers he is allegedly being thrashed. “My appeal to the J&K police is to behave compassionately with the people as they too are part of the same society and all of us are sailing in the same boat in these challenging times,” he said.

He also urged the people to abide the directions issued by the government which include maintaining social distancing and wearing masks while going out. Mufti Nasir reiterated that people should not go to masjids or shrines as pandemic is not over and that any mistake can cost Kashmir dearly. The Grand Mufti said that prisoners released from various prisons out of J&K are being charged hefty amount to reach their homes in Kashmir.

“I have come to know that the prisoners released from Agra, Uttar Pradesh and other prisons are being charged Rs 40,000 by the drivers and touts to reach home. Where from they would get this amount when they just step out of the jails,” he said. Mufti Nasir said if GoI is releasing these prisoners, it should also facilitate their smooth travel and homecoming. “By releasing these prisoners, they are being exposed to a great risk,” he said.
