A government girl’s high school of Shallabugh in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District was locked by locals reason being poor performance in the recently declared class 8 and 9 examinations.

“Among 32 students in class 8 not a single student has qualified all the subjects in the recently concluded board exams,” the locals alleged.

Meanwhile only twenty per cent students have qualified the class 9 examinations.

The enraged locals locked the school and said that they won’t allow it to function unless the concerned department does not investigate the matter, said a local.

Ishfaq Ahmad, a parent said that the matter should be investigated thoroughly.

“Parents of the students enrolled in the school were shocked to know the result of their wards. We have a right to know as to what led to this dismal performance of the school,” he said.

However the teachers of the school termed the allegations as baseless and blamed the parents for the dismal performance.

“The students remained absent for many days during the academic calendar. We repeatedly asked the parents to send their wards to school regularly. However, they never paid heed,” a teacher said.

The teacher said that once a student, who would rarely attend the class, was asked to get his father along. “Next day his father came and hurled invectives on the teachers,” the teacher alleged.
