SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecast moderate to heavy rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir from the night of January 26 till the evening of January 27, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds at several places.

According to MeT officials, an active western disturbance is expected to affect the region, bringing widespread precipitation. Higher and middle reaches are likely to witness moderate to heavy snowfall, while plains and lower areas may experience rain or rain mixed with snow.

The department has also warned of thunderstorms with gusty winds at isolated locations, which may lead to temporary disruption of traffic, particularly on mountain roads and highways, including the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.

Residents, travellers, and tourists have been advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel during the active weather period, and follow official advisories issued by the administration and traffic authorities.

The MeT has further stated that weather conditions are expected to improve gradually after January 27 evening.
