Jammu, Feb 20: In a significant boost to advanced medical education in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 24 Postgraduate Super-Specialty (DM/M.Ch) seats in key government medical institutions for the Academic Year 2025–26.
According to a public notice issued by the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission on February 20, 2026, the sanctioned seats include both new approvals and enhanced intake capacities.
For the first time, Government Medical College Jammu has been granted DM Cardiology, marking a major milestone in specialized cardiac care training in the region. The seat distribution includes:
• 10 seats for Government Medical College Srinagar
• 8 seats for Government Medical College Jammu
• 6 seats for Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences
The notification, signed by Dr. M. K. Ramesh, President, MARB, states that the individual Letters of Permission (LoPs) for the newly sanctioned and enhanced seats are currently under process. However, the notified list shall be treated as deemed LoPs for counselling purposes by the competent authorities.
The move is expected to strengthen tertiary healthcare services in the Union Territory while reducing dependency on institutions outside J&K for super-specialty medical training.
