A deeply concerning incident unfolded in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday evening when off-duty army personnel mysteriously went missing. In response, the army and police and other agencies have launched an extensive search operation to trace the soldier’s whereabouts.

The soldier has been identified as Javaid Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Ayoub Wani from Asthal Kulgam. His parents, in an emotional plea, reached out to those who may have abducted their son, earnestly requesting his safe release.

“If our son has unknowingly erred, we humbly beg for forgiveness. All we desire is to be reunited with our beloved son,” says Mohd Ayoub Wani, the soldier’s father.

He said, Javaid Ahmad Wani serves in the army and is currently posted in Ladakh. He had recently returned home a few days before Eid Ul Azha and was scheduled to resume duty tomorrow.

“On Saturday, as he embarked on a routine errand to buy groceries and bread for his forthcoming journey to Ladakh, he was abruptly kidnapped by unidentified individuals. This sudden and alarming disappearance has left the family in anguish, with his mother and sister, who are both heart patients, reeling in shock,” he said.

In a heart-wrenching appeal, his family implored whoever was responsible for his disappearance to release him immediately. They emphasized that he is not just their beloved son but also the breadwinner of the family, whose absence is causing immense distress and concern.

The family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Army and police for swiftly intensifying the search operation and relentlessly pursuing efforts to trace him.

An official statement from the authorities is awaited.
