Welcoming the move to open the Sharda Peeth Corridor, senior BJP Leader Basit Hayat Zargar said, “I’m elated to see the support of the PoJK government for the opening of Sharda Peeth Corridor for our Hindu Brethren as this pilgrimage is historically as well as culturally significant, especially for our Kashmiri Pandit brethren.”
In a recent development, Amit Shah, Home Minister of India, virtually inaugurated the Sharda Mata Temple near the Line of Control in the Teetwal area of the Kupwara district on 23rd March, 2023. He has assured ‘Save Sharda Committee Kashmir’, which has been pushing for the opening of the corridor since 2004.
The Government of PoJK has also proposed that on the same lines as the Kartarpur corridor, the Sharda Peeth corridor should be opened for Kashmiri Pandits and Hindu pilgrims from India. The move gained support from PoJK Assembly as well.
Basit Hayat Zargar praised the efforts of Save Sharda Committee Kashmir and said, “This Land has always been a believer of ganga Jamuni Tehzeeb and acknowledges the cultural contribution of each and every cultural sect without which we wouldn’t have such a rich culture and heritage. To preserve our culture and heritage implies preserving communal harmony. I congratulate Save Sharda Committee Kashmir for their efforts regarding opening of the Sharda Peeth corridor and I’m hopeful that soon their efforts shall manifest into reality.”
He hailed the global influence of India’s current Leadership and said, “India has achieved a significant and powerful position globally and especially in South Asia under the efficient Leadership of PM Modi and Sh. Amit shah Ji. Other countries look forward to the developments taking place in India and have recognised the true essence of ‘unity in Diversity’. Such a move by PoJK Government symbolises the stronghold of India’s global Position and their trust in India’s Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb”.
He further said that, “I’m hoping that such a move will bring our Kashmiri Brothers and sisters living on the both sides of Border closer and will reinstate Communal harmony in the area. Culture and heritage always bear the brunt of Conflicts. Hence, urge the people across border that it is high time we preserve our culture by rising above politics and do our best for the Devotees.”
