Panic gripped a few villages in border town Karnah of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district late Thursday evening after armies of India and Pakistan exchanged firing and shelling near Madayan and Toli army posts close to the Line of Control (LoC), locals said.
The locals of Kandi and Dildar, not too far from the posts told Greater Kashmir on phone that they were panicked by the heavy exchange of gunfire that erupted around 8:10 PM this evening and has been going on intermittently.
Shamsher Hussian, senior superintendent of police Kupwara confirmed that intermittent exchange of shelling was going on since 8 PM.
“Indian army is forcefully responding to the unprovoked shelling from across the border,” Hussian added.
