Police arrests B’pora man for attempt to kill woman, acher family for refusing marriage offer

Srinagar, December 18:  Police on Monday arrested a man from Saderkotebala in Bandipora for attempt to kill a woman and his family in Handwara area of Kupwara district.

SSP Handwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani told KP that on 8 December at about 07:45 pm police post Langate received information that an unidentified person on motor cycle hurled some explosive substance inside the kitchen through window of the house of one Abdul Aziz Dar son of Jamal Dar at shanoo area. Showing great courage, Dar’s daughter (name with held) threw it back from the window towards road and the explosive substance exploded with bang. The intensity of the explosion was such that window panes of the house were shacked and a big hole was created on macadamised road near the kitchen.

“On receipt of this information a case FIR No 391/17 U/s 307 RPC, 3/4 Explosive Substance Act was registered in police station Handwara and investigation was set into motion,” he said.

The SSP said that he orders constitution of investigation team the supervision of SDPO Handwara Shabir Ahmad Khan and headed by SHO Handwara Inspector Azim Iqbal. Other members of the team Langate include sub-inspector Jan Mohammad. The team immediately rushed on the spot to ascertain the facts. On inspection of the spot, a pair of gloves, broken glasses pieces of  window   panes were seized  and also the spot where the explosion substance exploded sand, dust and stone pieces were collected, packed and seized. .

At the time of explosion, the entire family was present in kitchen and included two kids. Had the explosive substance exploded inside the kitchen, it would have caused heavy loss of life and property but the courageous effort by Dar’s daughter saved many lives.

Dar, a labour by profession, denied any rivalry, land dispute or any animosity with any person or  and informed the police that the entire family was in deep shock and clueless. On inquiring further by the police, Dar informed the team that a few months ago, his daughter was engaged with a man in his relation somewhere in Saderkot Bandipora. “But the relation came to an end as his daughter was not willing to marry the person due to her personal reasons.”

During course of investigation, the SSP said, various aspects of the case were investigated. The technical evidences including call detail analysis of the suspected were obtained and analysed and finally investigation zeroed  on one suspected person namely Abdul Hamid Dar son of Adbul Aziz Dar of Saderkoot Bala. Adbul Hamid was the same person with whom Dar’s daughter was engaged.

“The accused has confessed that he was not happy with breakup and felt dejected  and in order to take revenge and to cause harm to the family of Abdul Aziz Dar  and he hurled explosive substances towards the house.”

He also confessed that he was working as stone extractor in stone quarry where they use explosive material to break stones and the same explosive material was used by him in a bid to blew up Dar’s house.

“The accused has been arrested and is in police custody.”

Meanwhile, the locals of the area appreciated the role of police and also thanked the police in solving blind attempt murder in a very short time. They called for strict action against the accused so that it serves as deterrent to others in future.
