The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena on Friday staged a protest demanding the creation of a separate state or Union Territory (UT) for the people of Jammu. The protesters claimed that doing so would end discrimination in Jammu since 1947.
Shiv Sena’s Jammu and Kashmir unit chief Manish Sahni urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce the formation of a separate assembly for Jammu. Sahni said that the people of Jammu should get statutory rights.
The J&K unit of Shiv Sena had raised a similar demand in July 2013 as well.
Addressing a gathering outside the Jammu Press Club, Manish Sawhney said, “Jammu will no longer pay the price for the misdeeds of the political class of Kashmir, which has discriminated against Jammu at all levels. We [the people of Jammu] For the last seven decades only a part of Kashmir has been on the map.”
The Shiv Sena leader alleged that the statehood was snatched from Jammu and Kashmir due to the complacency of the politicians of Kashmir.
Accusing the politicians of Kashmir of being “opportunistic”, Manish Sawhney said that they are demanding restoration of Article 370 on one hand and building relations with China and Pakistan on the other.
