Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir chapter of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) has expressed concern over the challenges faced by tourists due to the recent heavy snowfall in the region. Mr. Sameer Baktoo, Chairman of TAAI J&K Chapter, highlighted the importance of preparation during the winter season, especially when Kashmir is filled with tourists eager to enjoy the snow.
Mr. Baktoo pointed out that, traditionally, meetings were held with authorities and stakeholders to ensure proper snowfall preparedness, but such measures seem to have been overlooked this year. He stressed that ensuring the free movement of tourists is crucial at all times, and no visitor should face difficulties that hinder their travel experience.
He urged all travel and tourism stakeholders to assist tourists in any possible way to ensure their safe travel to destinations. This is a critical time to showcase the hospitality Kashmir is known for, and Mr. Baktoo reaffirmed that Kashmir remains one of the most popular destinations for tourists, even in winter.
Mr. Baktoo also appealed to the government to restore electricity in areas where it has been disrupted. He emphasized the need for uninterrupted power supply, at least until the snow melts, to ensure comfort and safety for tourists and locals. Additionally, he urged the authorities to take timely action to prevent the roads from becoming excessively slippery due to the freezing snow. By properly clearing the snow and using effective methods to avoid freezing, the risk of accidents and mishaps can be minimized.
TAAI calls for prompt action to ensure the smooth operation of tourism in Kashmir during this snowfall season and to uphold the region’s reputation for hospitality.
