Dr. Mushtaque B. Barq
Dr Nazir Mushtaq, MBBS, MD, MIMA , Department of Pathology GMC , born in 1951 at Pani Pora (Zalwarah) Sopore Kashmir. He was a student of Markazi Darasgah Islami Nawab Bazar, Srinagar Kashmir. He later joined Government High School Batamallo Srinagar and Government S P College, Srinagar, Kashmir finally Government Medical College for MBBS, MS. He obtained membership of the Students Union for ten years and is a life member of the Indian Medical Association (India) and Lifetime Member of Indian Medical Public Health Administration (India).
Dr Nazir Mushtaq launched his literary career as an essayist when his first essay, Jinhein Din Mein Panch Bar Pukara Jata Hein was published when he was a student of 8th standard. He proved his worth when his essay secured him the first prize at the national level and was published in Kids Magazine Noor. In 1970 Dr Nazir Mushtaq for the first time got published as a fiction writer in daily Aftab when his first short story Badnaseeb was published in it. He was able to generate a mammoth collection of his short stories, and most of them were praised for blunt narrations. His first story for the Radio Chand Se Dulhan was broadcast in 1971, followed by five more stories and two Radio dramas. His writing horizon expanded when he wrote his first Television Film Matcher in 1970 and 1973 emerged as a novelist with his novel Paigam. He also wrote several stage dramas and tele-dramas, tele stories, tele serials, telefilms and short films. In 1994 he wrote Mera Dost Mera Dushman , he wrote screen play of Wapsi and also scripted and Dukh Roud Lulawun in 1995. His Posh-e-Chaman was directed by Mufti Riyaz. His wrote the tele serials Zanjeer, Dadgah, Kaash and Su Kus Te Ba Kus, and Power for DD Srinagar. His stage plays Boud Mohniv and Naw were written by him for GMC Annual Day in the year 2001. His other literary works include: Yem Kam Zoolan, Tanaw, Ponsa, Wulruchi Kuchi Manz, Ak Afsana Akh Haqeeqat, Tashkees-i- Amraz, Soun, Ek Tha Badshah, Duniyhek Rang and Daag, Zaal and Yehai Che Kath.
As a columnist, Dr Nazir Mushtaq opted to write for Daily Kashmir Uzma. His columns had both satirical and entertaining content in them. He served his profession both through his medical gadgets and pen. His book Sihat Kamil on medical columns encouraged many writers to follow the suit. His inspirational medical columns and TV shows have best served the masses.
Dr Nazir Mushtaq has recently introduced Urdu micro-fiction stories and his collection Tinkay has already hit the stands. These micro-stories have been translated into English by Prof. Mohammad Aslam, and the translated version will soon be out for wider reading.
Dr Nazir Mushtaq was awarded the best scriptwriter seven times. He is the recipient of the best editor award by the Medical College Literary Council and the Lifetime Award for literary activities. He was also conferred for his most admirable literary services by The University of Kashmir at Golden Jubilee ceremony. In 1973-74 he was awarded 1st Prize (The Best Writer, Director and Producer) for the Kashmiri play Aziuk Nowjawanb staged at the Tagore Hall Srinagar. In 1975 he was again awarded (The Best Writer, Director and Producer) for Urdu play Dhair Ya Andhair and in 1976 he was for the third time adjudged (The Best Writer, Director and Producer) the Kashmiri Play Adam. All these plays were organised by CASS Union of GMC, Srinagar. A reputed director Siraj Quereshi directed his plays like Mach, Ushe Te Rath, Girdaab, Chands Si Dulhan, and Shikast. In 2018, he was again awarded for his medical services by Islamic Relief and Research Trust Kashmir. He was felicitated by Tameli Irshad for serving Urdu Literature. In 2018 once more he was granted the best Literary Award by Nigeena International.
Dr Nazir Mushtaq has also worked as News translator (Urdu to Kashmir) in Radio Kashmir and DD Srinagar. He has also served as a translator from Persian to English in Iran besides worked as a comparer in DD Srinagar.
He served Jammu Kashmir Fiction Writers’ Guild as President and supported the organization to grow under his leadership qualities and literary expertise.
