A total of 1,466 personnel from various police and security organisations across the country have been selected for the award, which recognises exceptional service, professional excellence, and dedication to duty.

Among the awardees are CRPF’s Special Director General Vitul Kumar and J&K Police’s IG Vidhi Kumar Birdi, honoured for their exemplary performance in the field of policing and operations.

The medal, instituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs on February 1, 2024, acknowledges outstanding contributions in special operations, investigation, intelligence, and forensic science. It is conferred annually on October 31, commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister and the architect of national unity.

According to the MHA, of the total 1,466 awardees, 1,364 personnel were honoured for their exceptional performance in special operations, 93 for their contribution in investigation, and nine for excellence in forensic science.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) secured the highest number of honours this year with 1,033 awards, followed by Chhattisgarh Police (222), Delhi Police (30), and Jammu and Kashmir Police (19). Other awardees include personnel from Jharkhand (15), Gujarat and Odisha (14 each), Assam (8), Narcotics Control Bureau (7), and Telangana (2).

Instituted under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the annual award aims to honour exceptional performance, promote professional standards, and boost the morale of police and security forces across the country.

This year’s awardees also include NCB’s then Deputy Director Gyanendra Kumar Singh, NIA’s then SP Jaya Rao (now DIG), and Sreejith T, among others.

The recognition of J&K Police’s IG Vidhi Kumar Birdi and 18 other officers highlights the commendable performance of Jammu and Kashmir’s law enforcement agencies, particularly in maintaining peace, combating terrorism, and ensuring public safety in the Union Territory.

The award serves as a tribute to the ideals of national unity and dedication to duty, guiding the police and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir and across India.
