Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot but failed to douse the flames in time. The building was damaged and most sections were reduced to ashes, they said.

Meanwhile, Police have launched a preliminary inquiry while no injuries were reported during the incident.

DFO Tangmarg, Feroz said the structure was old and made of wood, which helped the fire spread fast. He said most official records were destroyed.

The official added that the department informed Fire and Emergency Services on time, but the delay in response remains unexplained
