Anantnag, March 25 : The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday caught a Naib Tehsildar posted at Tehsil Office Arwani in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹22,000, officials said.

The accused official, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Narbal in Budgam district, was apprehended at the scene while receiving the bribe, officials said.

The action is part of ongoing efforts by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to curb corrupt practices in government offices, particularly in revenue departments where public service delivery is closely monitored.

Officials said the accused was immediately taken into custody after the trap operation was successfully executed, and the bribe money was recovered on the spot.

Following the arrest, Bhat was taken to Awantipora for further legal proceedings, officials added.

The ACB has initiated necessary legal formalities, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the demand and acceptance of the bribe.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against corruption and urged the public to report such incidents. [KNT]
