Sopore, Feb 6: The Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department on Thursday suspended two doctors following a shocking case of medical negligence at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore, where a patient’s uterus was allegedly removed instead of performing a scheduled ENT surgery.
According to an official order, the suspension aims to ensure a fair and impartial investigation while maintaining the integrity of the healthcare system. The suspended doctors—Dr. Anjum Nazir, Consultant Gynaecologist at SDH Sopore, and Dr. Tariq Ahmad Dar, Medical Officer (Diploma in Anesthesia) at DH Bandipora—have been attached to the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu, until further orders.
Additionally, both doctors have been prohibited from engaging in any form of private medical practice across Jammu and Kashmir. The operation theatre of Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital has also been sealed pending the outcome of the inquiry.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about medical negligence and surgical protocols at the hospital. The patient had been admitted for a routine ENT procedure, but due to an alleged error, doctors carried out an irreversible surgery, leading to the removal of the uterus.
In response, the health department has constituted a committee to thoroughly investigate the matter and determine accountability.
