The Centre has asked states to impose curfew wherever necessary, as some people continue to venture out despite the coronavirus lockdown orders. As many as 32 states and Union Territories are under a lockdown as India gears up to battle the virus that has killed 10 people in the country so far. According to health ministry data, there are 492 confirmed cases in the country at present; this number has been rising continuously.
Gujarat reported two more cases and Manipur recorded its first on Tuesday. A 65-year-old man died in Maharashtra from Covid-19.
The count of infected people in Maharashtra has surpassed 100. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 pm today to discuss aspects of the covid-19 menace. Ahead of prime minister’s address, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold a presser on economic package to deal with coronavirus fallout.
The government has suspended all domestic flights from today to stem the spread of coronavirus, stepping up a nationwide lockdown that threatens PM Modi’s attempts to revive the economy, which has already been expanding at the slowest pace in more than a decade..
The pandemic has continued to spread globally, with the total number of infected cases reaching 382,568. As many as 16,578 people have died of Covid-19 so far. ( Business Standard )
