63 PSA DETAINEES, UNDERTRIALS RELEASED: DG PRISONS

19 convicts approved for parole

The Director General of Prisons has informed the High Court that 63 PSA detainees and undertrails have been released from different jails of Jammu & Kashmir.

As per the report submitted by DGP Prisons V.K. Singh, as on April 7, 2020, 22 PSA detenues, 32 undertrials and nine undertrial prisoners falling under sections 107, 109, 151 CrPC have been released.

He also submitted that sanction for parole has been granted to 19 prisoners and two prisoners have been released on parole. The DGP Prisons also placed details before the Court about detenues from Jammu and Kashmir who are lodged in six jails in Uttar Pradesh and two jails of Haryana.

“Reports obtained from DGs (Prisons), Uttar Pradesh and Haryana regarding steps taken for ensuring the health of the detenues and their protection from COVID-10 infection has been enclosed with the report, the High Court order states. The Court also asked government to further submit a report with regard to the release of prisoners in accordance with the directions of the High Powered Committee be placed before it before the next date of hearing.
