Srinagar, May 23 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said the crackdown on narco-terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir will continue “mercilessly”, as he disclosed that 797 FIRs have been registered and 894 drug smugglers arrested in the last 43 days.
Addressing the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Padyatra’ in Shopian, LG Sinha as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the movement against drug trafficking has turned into a powerful grassroots campaign across the Union Territory.
“The poison of drugs is diverting youth from the path of progress. millitant groups use proceeds from narcotics to buy weapons to spill the blood of ordinary Kashmiris,” the Lt Governor said.
LG Sinha said any official or person in public life found connected to the drug network will face strict legal consequences. “If even the slightest trace of this infection has seeped into our system, it will be mercilessly cut out,” he asserted.
LG Sinha also informed that 59 traffickers have been arrested under the PIT-NDPS Act, 81 “narcotic palaces” built with black money have been demolished, and 101 immovable properties attached.
Over 7,000 women’s committees have been formed across the UT, he added, and a comprehensive rehabilitation policy is being prepared to reintegrate addicted youth into the mainstream.
