North Kashmir’s Bandipora district has witnessed highest number of positive Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir. District Development Commissioner Shahbaz Mirza says more positive cases are surfacing because of relentless efforts and testing of Covid-19 suspects in the district.
Bandipora has 84 positive cases wherein 72 are Active Positive, 11 recovered and 01has died, Srinagar 79 positive cases with 56 Active Positive, 22 recovered and 01 died, Baramulla 43 positive cases with 41 Active Positive, and 02 died; Kupwara has 31 positive cases and all are active cases; Shopian has 22 positive with 20 Active Positive, 02 recovered; Ganderbal has 14 positive cases and all are Active Positive, Budgam 13 positive cases of which 06 are Active Positive with 07 recovered cases; Kulgam has 06 cases and all are Active Positive; Pulwama 03 positive cases with 02 Active Positive, 01 recovered; Anantnag district has 03 positive case and all are Active Positive.
District Development Commissioner Bandipora told that majority of the patients who have been tested positive are asymptomatic and have no signs of any infection. “A cop was tested positive in the district who is also asymptomatic. We have quarantined all those who were in his contact. All will be tested in the interest of society and public,” he said.
While responding to a question, Shahbaz Mirza said that more and more positive cases are surfacing in Bandipora because of aggressive testing. “We take samples of every suspect and don’t take any chances. It is only aggressive testing that more Covid-19 cases are surfacing, otherwise the situation in the district is not as aggravating as it is being presented,” Mirza said.
Gund Jahangir area in the district has alone over 30 confirmed cases.
Pertinently, as compared to Kashmir, Jammu has only 26 positive cases of whom 22 are Active Positive and 04 have recovered, Udhampur 20 positive cases of which 14 are Active Positive, 05 recovered and 01 died, while as Samba district has 4 positive cases and all are Active Positive; Rajouri has 04 positive cases, 1 active positive and 03 cases have recovered. Meanwhile, Kishtwar has only 01 positive case who has recovered. ( KNT )
