SRINAGAR 01 Jun : Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said the administration remains committed to eliminating the drug menace from society and will continue its efforts until the Union Territory becomes drug-free.

Addressing a public gathering in Kulgam, the Lieutenant Governor said the government has intensified its anti-narcotics drive and is taking strict action against drug traffickers and peddlers across Jammu and Kashmir.

He stated that around 930 FIRs have been registered in cases related to drug trafficking and narcotics offences, while more than 1,000 drug peddlers and smugglers have been arrested during the ongoing crackdown.

Sinha further said that stringent measures have been taken against individuals involved in drug-related activities, including the cancellation of over 600 driving licences. He also noted that authorities have recommended the cancellation of 124 passports linked to persons allegedly involved in the drug trade.

Emphasising a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics, the Lieutenant Governor said the issue is not only a law-and-order challenge but also a social concern that requires collective action from families, educational institutions, religious leaders and civil society.

He appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs and support efforts aimed at building a healthier and more prosperous society.

Reiterating the administration’s resolve, Sinha said the anti-drug campaign would continue with sustained intensity and that efforts would not cease until Jammu and Kashmir is made a drug-free region.
