All the attention of the administration is focused on the DDC elections

Meat has become scarce in other parts of the valley, including in different parts of Srinagar, as a result of which complaints have been received from poultry sellers that the shops from which the meat used to be available are now selling chickens. There is a shortage of meat in the entire valley. Meanwhile, during the DDC election campaign, the process of robbing consumers with both hands has been started. According to locals, the Kashmir Valley is the only region in the world where the basic rights of the people are being taken away as soon as political or social activities intensify. Abdul Majeed, a school teacher by profession, said that all the attention of the government goes to one issue.
He added that the general public is left on the mercy of the exploitative elements, who do not feel any shame in robbing people with both the hands. He said that no case has been registered against the chicken sellers or any ordinary shopkeeper who commits hoarding. An official of the Consumer Affairs Department, who did not want to be named, told that the prices of chicken fluctuate from day to day, so it is very difficult to control it. He said that the government should formulate a new policy on poultry and beef prices to protect consumers from exploitation.
Department of Home Affairs Consumers and public distribution have set the prices of all essential commodities by keeping the price lists but still ordinary citizens are being robbed by selling vegetables and other necessities at extra prices. He alleged that after the snowfall, the prices of various vegetables have been increased by Rs 10 to 20 while the prices of chickens have also been increased by Rs 15 to 20.
The correspondent said that although the prices of various types of vegetables were moderate before the snowfall, but after the snowfall, the prices have been increased by taking unfair advantage of the compulsions of the consumers. The common man demands that the back-breaking inflation be brought under control. A clear policy should be formulated for this and legal action should be taken against the hoarders and price hikers and severe punishment should be given.
