Ahead of Forecasted Snow Spell, Project Beacon Ramps Up Clearance Operations on 57-Kilometre CTC Road in Kupwara

Project Beacon has intensified its snow clearance operations and cleared almost ninety percent of the 57-kilometre Chowkibal-Tangdhar-Chamkote road, shortened for ‘CTC Road’, in frontier north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“The process has been paced up by 109 Beacon in view of the expected snow spell on January 7 to January 8. Up to this evening, nearly 22 kilometres of snow has been cleared from Chowkibal to Sadhna. Also, nearly 15 kilometres have been cleared of snow on Keran road and nearly 25 km from Sarkuli to Macchal”, a Beacon official said.

“Labourers, JEs laced with dozers, snow cutters and snow flow machines, under the supervision of OIC, are on job to clear the road as much as they can to avoid much accumulation which may take the department much time to clear later on”, the official said.

Notably, MeT department has forecasted of a ‘heavy to very heavy’ snow spell during January 7 to January 8 across Kashmir even as the authorities having cautioned of avalanches’ of ‘Orange’ grade from sixteen kilometers onwards on Sadhna Pass. (GNS)
