New Delhi, June 25 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday called on President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, triggering fresh speculation over a possible reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers.
The President’s Office confirmed the meeting through a post on X, sharing a photograph of the interaction and stating that Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah had called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The development comes just two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met the President, further fuelling political buzz over an imminent overhaul of the Union Cabinet.
Speculation has gathered pace following the exit of several ministers from the Rajya Sabha. Senior BJP leader George Kurian recently stepped down from the Council of Ministers after the completion of his Rajya Sabha tenure on June 21. Kurian had been serving as Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. The BJP did not renominate him to the Upper House.
Similarly, Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh, whose Rajya Sabha term also ended on June 21, has also not been renominated by the party.
Adding to the speculation, some Union ministers have recently been entrusted with key organisational responsibilities within the BJP. Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra was appointed Delhi BJP president in May, while Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary was named the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh president in December last year.
Political observers believe these developments may pave the way for a broader reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers in the coming days. However, no official announcement has been made by the government so far.(KNC)
