Srinagar, Aug 4 : Kashmir University administration is yet to inform Raj Bhavan about the constitution of a Search Committee to appoint new Vice Chancellor of the varsity.

The tenure of incumbent VC Professor Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi is expiring in October 2017.

Normally, Registrar Kashmir University has to inform the Chancellor (Governor J&K) four months before the term of any VC expires and has to request him to constitute a Search Committee for the appointment of new Vice Chancellor. Only three months have left in the tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor and yet the Registrar has not sent any communiqué to the Raj Bhavan.

“There is no need to constitute a Search Committee if the term of any incumbent VC is extended, but there is no proposal to extend the term of the present VC of Kashmir University. The delay on part of University administration seems to be intentional and a move to pave way for the term extension of the incumbent VC,” said a Professor to news agency CNS.

An official said that there has been no precedence that Raj Bhavan should be informed four months before the term of any VC expires.

Internal sources said that dilly dally tactics are being adopted to delay the constitution of Search Committee. The irony is that the incumbent Registrar Kashmir University Professor Khurshid feigned ignorance about the issue and said that his predecessor might have sent a communiqué to the Raj Bhavan. “I have taken over recently. I think my predecessor might have requested Raj Bhavan to constitute a Search Committee for the appointment of new Vice Chancellor,” he said.

Sources at Raj Bhavan said that no communiqué vis-à-vis constitution of Search Committee has reached to the Chancellor Kashmir University.
