Army calls HAWS rescue team to trace missing soldiers in Gurez

Army on Wednesday called HAWS (High Altitude Warfare School) rescue team to trace three soldiers missing after an avalanche hit an army forward post in Bagtore area of Gurez on Sunday.

An official said that to trace the missing soldiers, the army has called HAWS rescue team from Baltal in Sonamarg today morning.

He said that local army units were facing difficulties in rescue and search operation to trace out missing soldiers due to heavy snowfall.

“Last night snow had stopped for a brief time, but it started again, thus hampering the rescue operation by local army. To help the local army to trace out missing soldiers, HAWS rescue team has been called in,” he said.

“HAWS is Indian Army’s top training establishment for special operations in super high altitude, glaciated and snow bound areas.

“Operating from three different locations in Kashmir, the school conducts winter warfare courses at Gulmarg, mountain warfare courses at Sonamarg and ice craft at Machoi across Zojila.
