Mendhar/Jammu, Oct 9 : The Army recovered and destroyed three landmines along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar and Balakote forward areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said.

Two landmines were recovered by troops near the fence at Basooni Top in Mendhar sector, they said.

A bomb disposal squad of the Army reached the spot and safely destroyed the mines, the officials said.

In another incident, troops detected a landmine during routine patrolling in the Balakote forward area. The mine was subsequently destroyed by an Army bomb disposal team, they said.

There was no loss of life or damage to property in either incident, the officials said.

As part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system, the forward areas are dotted with landmines which sometimes get washed away by rains and are subsequently found and destroyed to avoid any untoward incident. ( PTI )
