Srinagar, May 2, 2026: In a graceful and dignified ceremony embodying the spirit of service, compassion, and excellence, The Art of Living Foundation hosted a prestigious felicitation function at Tagore Hall, Srinagar. The event formed part of the global celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, set to culminate on May 13, 2026. This year’s theme, “Unsung Everyday Heroes,” honors individuals from diverse walks of life whose quiet yet meaningful contributions have strengthened society.

Organized under the patronage of noted philanthropist Roma Wani, the Srinagar event brought together eminent personalities, intellectuals, and social contributors in an atmosphere of recognition and gratitude. The initiative reflects the Foundation’s core philosophy of fostering inner peace, human values, and selfless service as the bedrock of a harmonious and progressive society.
From the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, three distinguished individuals were selected through a rigorous and credible jury process. These included Smt. Nayeema Mustafa for Sports Excellence, Shri Waseem Shah for Business and Philanthropy, and Shri Kanwal Peshin for Business and Philanthropy. While Smt. Nayeema Mustafa and Shri Waseem Shah were felicitated at the Srinagar समारोह, Shri Kanwal Peshin was honored at a parallel event in Jammu, ensuring balanced regional representation.

The function was graced by Syed Shabir Ahmad, Joint Director, School Education Kashmir, as Chief Guest, while Dilafroz Qazi, Vice Chairperson, SSM Polytechnic College, Parihaspora, attended as Guest of Honour. Both dignitaries lauded the initiative, emphasizing the importance of recognizing grassroots contributors whose dedication and integrity quietly shape society.

In her welcome address, Roma Wani underlined the vision behind the event, stating that acknowledging unsung heroes not only uplifts individuals but also inspires a broader culture of responsibility and collective transformation. She highlighted how the teachings of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar have guided millions worldwide toward stress-free living, ethical leadership, and community service.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Syed Shabir Ahmad reflected on contemporary educational and societal challenges, stressing the need for value-based education and holistic development. Ashraf Wani (Educationist & Social Worker), and Rakesh Bhat (Co-Chairman, Federation of Chamber of Commerce), among others.
