An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Vijaypur Police Station was placed under suspension for dereliction of duty by SSP Samba, Dr Abhisheik Mahajan today.
As per reports, a lady from Bazigar Basti had come to Police Station, Vijaypur with a report that the modesty of her 11 year daughter was outraged by a youth who forcibly entered their residence during the intervening night of April 16 and 17. However, the ASI on duty failed to take the cognisance of the matter and did not register the case or statement of the lady.
When contacted, SSP Samba said that the case has been handed over to Crime Branch and investigation started. The FIR was registered and meanwhile, he has issued suspension orders of concerned ASI for dereliction of duty.
Meanwhile, the Government today assigned additional charge to Priyanka Kumari DySP , Police Component Jammu in addition to her own duties as SDPO Vijaypur till further orders.
She has been asked to report to SSP Samba immediately for further duties. The order to this effect was issued by Director General Police J&K.
Sources attribute this action for the dereliction of duty by the police which failed to take timely action in the rape case of a minor girl.
