Unknown burglars stole an ATM machine of State Bank of India (SBI) from Lalbazar area of Srinagar district during lastnight, police said on Sunday.

A senior police officer told news agency that unknown burglars barged into ATM in near Salfiya Chowk in Lalbazar area and decamped with the machine and cash amount of approximately 5 lakhs. Soon after learning about the incident, a police party rushed to the spot and launched investigations into it.

“A case FIR number 17/2018 u/s 457, 380 RPC was registered in the concerned police station with regard to the incident,” the officer said.

The Valley parts witnessed a rise in cases of bank robberies and ATM decamping since last year. Police have time and again blamed militants for armed bank robberies; however, latter rejected the accusations almost each time.
