Srinagar, June 9, 2026: The Central Government Pensioners Welfare Association Kashmir (CGPWAK), in collaboration with Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Kothibagh, Srinagar, organized an awareness programme on “Effects of Drugs on the Next Generation” to educate students and the community about the growing menace of drug abuse among youth.
The programme was presided over by CGPWAK President Kifayat Rizvi, who, in his address, emphasized the importance of spiritual guidance, parental care, and social responsibility in safeguarding the younger generation from the dangers of drug addiction.
Prominent speakers including Maulana Shaukat Hussain Keng, Dr. Muzaffar, Maulana G.R. Noori,& IGP kashmir VK Birdi deliberated on the medical, social, psychological, and legal dimensions of drug abuse. They called for collective action by schools, families, civil society, and law enforcement agencies to ensure a healthy and drug-free environment for youth.
Students of the institution delivered impactful presentations through speeches and posters highlighting the harmful effects of drugs, which were widely appreciated by the audience.
Ms. Samina Wani, Principal of GGHSS Kothibagh, welcomed the guests and underscored the vital role of civil society in the fight against drug abuse. The programme was anchored by Shri G.M. Bhat, Secretary, CGPWAK.
G.M. Wani (Dilshad), General Secretary of CGPWAK, highlighted the devastating impact of drug addiction on human life and conveyed a strong message through poetry, urging society to remain vigilant and proactive against the menace.
While presenting the vote of thanks, Dr. Rafiq Masoodi appreciated the active participation of the media, school administration, teachers, and students, which contributed to the successful conduct of the programme. The event concluded with an anti-drug pledge taken by all participants.
CGPWAK reiterated its commitment to creating awareness against drug abuse and made a strong public appeal for collective efforts to curb the growing drug menace in society.
