The district hospital Bandipora is facing an acute shortage of staff as 40 posts are lying vacant for the past many years despite repeated demands to the higher authorities to address the issue.
The hospital was shifted a year ago to the newly-constructed multi-storey building A after which people had hoped that they would get a sigh of relief now as far as the healthcare is concerned.
Details available with news agency, reveals that of 108 posts sanctioned for the hospital, 40 posts were vacant in the hospital for years now.
The details also revealed that the different categories of consultants, medical officers, paramedical staff, X-ray technician and sensitisation staff are among the 40 vacant posts in the district hospital.
“The hospital has a daily footfall of around 5,000 patients from across the district,” it said.
Locals have said that they still have to go to Srinagar and Sopore for treatment as some important sections of the hospital often remain closed.
“Here you will be treated for a common ailment. After that you will either be sent to Srinagar or somewhere else,” said Tasleema, whose mother was being shifted to Srinagar hospital.
Abdul Majeed another local said that there is a great need for an orthopedic surgeon which we get here only twice a week. “Government should think about this so that we too can get rid of this issue,” he said.
