Visits Sheetal Nath Temple, says it is Srinagar’s heritage, must be preserved for future generations.
Srinagar, Sept 23 : Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Wednesday said Sheetal Nath Temple is an important part of Srinagar’s heritage and it is the collective responsibility of society to preserve such heritage for future generations.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to Sheetal Nath Temple in Srinagar, as per news agency, CS Dulloo said the temple is believed to be one of the eight Bhairavas protecting the city of Srinagar.
“It is our heritage and it is our duty as a society to protect our heritage and pass it on to future generations,” he said.
Dulloo said the temple was built in 2023 and has recently been inaugurated, while expressing gratitude to the Sanatan Dharma Sabha for taking care of the temple for the last 100 years.
He said the temple had been burnt down in 1991, following which the Sanatan Dharma Sabha repaired it and inaugurated the temple at the site.
The Chief Secretary said the temple holds significance not only as a religious place but also as a venue where the community used to gather for social occasions.
He said programmes including Janmashtami and Basant Panchami have also been organised at the temple.
Responding to a question regarding banned books, Dulloo said checking of books is a regular process, and books which have been banned must not be kept in schools.
It is pertinent to mention that the Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that 4,249 books, other than 518 banned books, were withdrawn from circulation in government degree college libraries across the Union Territory.
