The Batapora Hazratbal road is in extreme bad condition. The road connects and to Shalimar and with dozens of villagesThe dilapidated road has become a nuisance for the locals as well as to thousands of people travelling daily.
The big potholes and the drain water floating on the road, often lead to traffic mess at Batapora, Hazratbal.
The locals demanded immediate repair of the road.
As per sources, the condition of the road started to deteriorate only after few locals encroached upon a drain few years back.
Soon after the drain was encroached upon, its water started to submerge the road, ultimately damaging it completely.
“It is the leaked water of the drain which has caused damage to the road. Had authorities initiated action against the encroachers, the people would not have been subjected to such an inconvenience” said Farooq Ahmad, resident of Batapora , Hazratbal
The frequent travellers on this road while showing their anger against the authorities said it is because of the bad condition of the road that they often arrive late at their working place.
Locals said they had informed about the encroachment to the local authorities, but they failed to take any action. “We visited the local tehsildar’s office and apprised him about the attempts being made to encroach upon the drain. However, despite identifying the encroachers, the authorities did nothing,” said Muhammad Ayub, a local resident.He said the authorities must initiate legal action against the encroachers. Despite repeated attempts, no authority could be contacted for comment. (CNS)
