Srinagar, Sep 23: BJP leader and MLA Nagrota Devyani Rana on Wednesday paid rich tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh on his birth anniversary, saying his contributions to Jammu and Kashmir and the entire nation will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.
“On the occasion of Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary, we wish the whole of Jammu and Kashmir and the whole of India and hope that every generation, generation after generation, remembers the contribution which Maharaja Hari Singh Ji has made, not only in Jammu and Kashmir but in the whole of India,” BJP leader said.
She said the legacy of the erstwhile Dogra ruler would not only be remembered but also celebrated for years to come.
Describing the holiday declared on Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary as a “long-pending demand” of the people, MLA Devyani recalled that in 2022, delegations led by Vindasingh Rana Sahib took up the matter with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
“And at that time, it was decided that keeping in mind the contributions of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji and the historical context, this holiday should be announced,” she said.
MLA Devyani also hit out at the opposition over the proceedings in the Assembly a day earlier, calling the developments “very sad.”
“We said that if you want to keep your topic, you can, we have no objection to that. But to say that Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s holiday should be cancelled — we said this yesterday and we will say it today also through you — that this holiday, people have taken it with a lot of effort, and we will never let it get cancelled, nor will it ever get cancelled,” she said.
