Ganderbal (Kangan): In a heart-wrenching incident in Theon area of Kangan, Ganderbal district, two brothers fell into a power canal on Saturday, triggering a frantic rescue effort in which one was saved while the other remains missing.
Officials identified the brothers as Mumtaz Ahmed Tedwa and Tanveer Ahmed Tedwa, sons of Muhammad Shafi Tedwa, residents of Theon Kangan. According to sources, Tanveer entered the canal in an attempt to rescue Mumtaz but was overpowered by the strong current and swept away.
Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rushed to the spot soon after being alerted and launched coordinated rescue and search operations along the canal stretch. Mumtaz was pulled out of the canal and shifted to Trauma Hospital Kangan for treatment.
Doctors said Mumtaz had reportedly suffered a cardiac episode, following which he lost consciousness and fell into the canal. His condition is stated to be stable and he was later referred to SKIMS Soura for further medical management.
Meanwhile, the search for Tanveer continues with SDRF and police teams conducting intensive operations under the on-ground supervision of senior officers, including the SDPO Kangan and SHO Kangan.
