Jammu, Oct 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party today questioned the credibility, accountability and functioning of the National Conference government in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the much-delayed Cabinet expansion cannot serve as a cover for unfulfilled election promises, allegations of corruption and growing internal discord.
The BJP said the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve answers on the commitments made before the elections, the allegations of corruption against ministers and the concerns reportedly voiced by legislators at Dachigam. Despite Omar Abdullah’s assurance to set things right, the public deserves to know what concrete action, if any, has followed.
The party further observed that the reported public rebuke of legislators over alleged lobbying for ministerial berths raises serious questions about the accessibility and internal functioning of the ruling establishment. Elected representatives are accountable to their constituents and have every legitimate right to raise concerns and seek a hearing from their Chief Minister.
“Is the government more concerned about managing ministerial positions than managing the expectations of the people? Can a Cabinet reshuffle substitute for delivery, transparency and accountability? And when serious allegations are raised within the ruling establishment itself, who will ensure that they are impartially examined?” the BJP asked.
The party maintained that Cabinet expansion must not become an exercise in distributing positions to manage internal dissent while substantive public concerns remain unanswered. Allegations of corruption must be investigated fairly, and responsibility must be fixed wherever wrongdoing is established.
“Jammu and Kashmir needs governance, not political manoeuvring; accountability, not assurances; and delivery on promises, not another round of reshuffling. The real test of tomorrow’s Cabinet expansion is not how many berths are filled, but whether the government can restore public confidence through measurable performance and transparent administration.”
