Why do parents force their choice on their children?
“We ought to destroy the career of child by making them realize that doctors and engineering’s is the only service to be worth aspire and to live in the world where we have other multitude professions.”
Whenever the class 10th and 12th exams are over. Children in Kashmir are in the state of enjoyment, the break after the stress of examinations is really enjoyable but after short enjoyments the career dilemma being to occur immediately. I know what it feels, when board exams come to an end and our reaction for future subjects is different as well as frustrating. The mind gets disaster like strikes at that time because it’s very difficult to face questions of career from our society. Let me tell more things honestly, Once the examinations are over. the `Home Parliament’ debate shifts over to children. Yes, the parents only have right to decide the future of their child! But the ‘Bill of Future’ was already Passed by the home parliament when you were born. Suggestions about your future were also taken from other ‘Relatives’ (ministry) which was also discussed upon. Also, neighborhood parties provided their suggestion in front of your parents. Unfortunately, whose future is being discussed upon is under ‘PSA’ (Parents Slavery Act). One cannot put forth one’s views about future. It looks like a political process indeed, it looks like. The children only know what it feels when your future is being discussed and your interest is not taken into consideration. Whenever a child is born in Kashmir, his/her parents decide what he/she will do in the future. The only two professions that each parent tries to thrust upon their kids are that of a doctor or an engineer. The parents decide themselves what their children would be in future. Not all parents but some thrust their choice on their children and it leads their child to different problems. A child becomes victim of hypertension, stress, anxiety, drugs. smoking and even suicide. They don’t see the hidden talents of their child in them. Rather force them to take their choice only. And a child becomes a victim of these problems. When children grow up, they see their interest in such a field in which they can be happy as well as can satisfy them. The God has sent them with some natural talents. Unfortunately, parents don’t see this thing and force their children to a particular choice. Anyone who bags 90% marks in board exams is considered superior to others. They can take science stream even if they have no interest in it. Second category is of those who score up to 70%. They are considered to be in Commerce stream as like in Kashmir, such candidates can become businessmen or work in banks etc. The third category belongs to Arts stream. If a child scores 60% in board exams he/she is considered good enough for arts. He/she cannot become something in life and is considered to be mentally weak.
Moreover, those who fail (due to any reason) in examination are consider totally worthless and useless, because people around them have created such frustrated environment. A Parent must consider that a positive peer pressure is required to lift the career of child, but unfortunately failure child is rotten by negative response of parents as well as society around them. This is what our society thinks in that way, It is a truth and no one can deny It.
“A failure is called Dark, not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see”
But what a pity! On academic performance, we decide the future of a child that’s what we do.
“A human being is part of the whole, called by us “Universe”; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest—a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion and negativity is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and thinking process. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely but the striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security”
— Albert Einstein
We need to re-construct our thinking so that those who fail in examination shouldn’t been consider as worthless or useless and we have to give ever child a chance to do whatever they want in the fields of study. At last i am requesting as a student to every senior out there! For God’s sake let them choose their own!
